How does the Barcelona Card work?
The Barcelona Card is the official tourist card of the Barcelona Tourist Office. With this card you can visit many museums for free. At some attractions you get a discount on the entrance fee.
You can also use public transport without having to buy a ticket.
Key benefits include:
- Free admission to more than 20 museums
- Top museums: Moco Museum, Picasso Museum, MNAC, Castell de Montjuïc
- Public transport within Barcelona
- Discounts for 30+ attractions in Barcelona
Any number of services can be claimed within 72, 96 or 120 hours. The only restriction is the period of validity.
The more museums you visit, the more worthwhile the Barcelona Card. Unfortunately, you cannot skip queues with the Barcelona Card.
After purchase, you will receive an email with all the information you need to pick up your card. The Barcelona Card can be collected at the airport or in the city centre.
What attractions are included?
With the Barcelona City Card you can visit more than 20 museums without having to buy additional tickets. You can also use public transport for free during the period of validity of the Barcelona Card. This includes travel from the airport to the city centre.

The Barcelona Card covers many museums, but not much else. There are many attractions in Barcelona that are not included in the City Card:

- Sagrada Família (only with Gaudí package)
- Park Güell (only with Gaudí package)
- Aquarium
- Casa Batlló

The Travel Card is activated, but the Barcelona Card is not. These are two different cards.
Is the Barcelona Card worth it?
If you want to visit many museums and use public transport, there are good reasons to choose the Barcelona Card. But is it worth it financially?
This question is answered in this section.
How much does the Barcelona Card cost?
The price of the Barcelona Card depends on the period of validity. The longer the City Card is valid, the more expensive it becomes. However, the value for money improves as the period of validity increases.
- 72 hours: 53 € = 24,33 € per day
- 96 hours: 63 € = 15,75 € per day
- 120 hours: 75 € = 15,00 € per day
These prices apply to adults and young people. There is a reduction for children between 4 and 12 years.
Example: Barcelona Card for 72 hours
In general, the longer the Barcelona Card is valid, the cheaper it is per day. The most popular variant is the one with a validity period of 72 hours. Each additional day increases the price only slightly. Using the 3-day card as an example, we show you how much you can save.
Attraction | Price with Barcelona Card | Price without Barcelona Card |
Barcelona Card: 72 hrs. | 53,- € | – |
Picasso Museum | 0,- € | 13,00 € |
Moco Museum | 0,- € | 19,95 € |
Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya | 0,- € | 12,00 € |
Guided tour of the Gothic Quarter | 12,50 € | 25,00 € |
Public transport (72 hrs.) | 0,- € | 23,80 € |
Total | 65,50 € | 93,75 € |
With the Barcelona Card you can save money if you visit at least one museum per day and also use public transport. If you visit more museums or take advantage of discounts, you can save even more.

A purchase via Tiqets.com or GetYourGuide can be cancelled free of charge up to one day before departure.
Arguments against the Barcelona Card
The official Barcelona Card is a good product. However, there are also arguments against the City Card:
No fast track: With the Barcelona Card, you do not have fast track access. You have to queue at the ticket office to get your free ticket. However, there are no long queues at most museums.
Missing attractions: The Barcelona City Card mainly covers museums. It is therefore only suitable for travellers who want to visit several museums. Many important sights are missing. The Sagrada Família and Park Güell are included in the optional Gaudí package.
Not suitable for families: There is a discounted Barcelona Card for children between the ages of 4 and 12, but it's only worth buying if you visit a lot of museums together.
Not a digital product: As it is a physical card, the Barcelona Card must be collected on arrival. It cannot be used with a mobile phone, like many other City Cards.
Discounts are not very attractive: The Barcelona City Card offers discounts for more than 30 attractions in Barcelona. However, with a few exceptions, these discounts are not very attractive. Most of the time you only get a small discount. It is more worthwhile to visit a museum that is free with the Barcelona Card in the time available.
Conclusion: Who is the Barcelona Card suitable for?
The Barcelona Card may be suitable for your trip to Barcelona in the following circumstances:
- Want to visit some of Barcelona's most famous museums? With the City Card you have free entry to the Moco Museum, Picasso Museum, MNAC and many others.
- You want to use public transport in Barcelona for several days. The ticket is also valid for the metro line from the airport to the city centre.
- You want to save money compared to single tickets. If you visit several museums and use public transport, this is not a problem.
- The fact that you have to collect the Barcelona Card after your arrival does not bother you. You can pick it up immediately after your arrival at the airport or in the city centre.
- You would like to receive many tickets from one source.
- If you want to visit two of Gaudí's most important sights, the optional Gaudí package is just what you need.
Questions & Answers
Does the Barcelona Card grant fast entry?
No, the Barcelona Card does not generally grant preferential admission. For all sights and museums, you must go to the box office to get your ticket. As a rule, however, you do not have to expect waiting times.
If you are interested in the optional Gaudí package, visit the Sagrada Família and Park Güell in a time slot reserved for you. This reduces waiting times to a minimum.
Can the purchase be cancelled free of charge?
If you have purchased the Barcelona Card via ticket platforms such as Tiqets.com and GetYourGuide, you can cancel the purchase free of charge up to one day before your departure.
Attention: The Barcelona Card with Gaudí Package cannot be cancelled as individual tickets are booked for Sagrada Família and Park Güell.
Is the Barcelona Card suitable for families?
As the Barcelona Card mainly covers museums, including many art museums, it is not suitable for most families with young children. However, if your family would like to visit several museums within a few days, there is a discount on the Barcelona Card for children between the ages of 4 and 12.
Are there other City Cards for Barcelona?
Yes, the Barcelona Pass is an alternative. It includes only a few, but very popular attractions: Sagrada Família, Park Güell and the hop-on/hop-off bus.
