Buying & Redeeming
What is the Barcelona Card?+
The Barcelona Card is the official tourist card of Barcelona: free entry to over 25 museums plus unlimited public transport in Zone 1 including the airport, for 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours.
What do I receive after purchase?+
You immediately receive a voucher by email. You exchange this at a Tourist Information office in Barcelona for the physical Barcelona Card.
Where can I redeem the voucher?+
At Tourist Information offices, including Plaça de Catalunya 17 (ground floor), at Barcelona Airport in Terminals T1 and T2, and in the entrance hall of Metro line L9. Opening hours are generally 08:30 to 20:30.
Do I need to print the voucher?+
No. Simply show the voucher on your smartphone and you will receive the physical Barcelona Card, which you then use at museums and on public transport.
Validity & Use
When does the validity period start?+
The countdown begins only with the first use of the card, not at the time of purchase or exchange. From that moment, the chosen duration (48, 72, 96 or 120 hours) runs continuously.
Can I choose my own start date?+
Yes. You book with a start date, but the clock only starts when you take your first journey or visit your first museum. This means you decide when to begin.
Is the card transferable?+
No. The Barcelona Card is valid per person and is not transferable. Each person travelling with you needs their own card.
Is there a children's price?+
Yes. Children aged 4 to 12 pay the reduced children's price; younger children are free. You select the children's price in the booking window. View all prices.
Public Transport
Which public transport is included?+
Metro and bus (TMB), city and suburban trains (FGC), trams, airport trains and Renfe suburban trains in Zone 1, all unlimited during the validity period. Night buses are not included.
Can I use the card to travel from the airport to the city centre?+
Yes. The card covers Zone 1 public transport including the airport connection. This means you can travel from El Prat Airport to the city centre without buying a separate ticket. More about public transport.
How many times can I use the metro and bus?+
Unlimited. Unlike museums, there is no limit on Zone 1 public transport - you can travel as often as you like throughout the entire validity period.
Attractions & Benefits
Are the attractions really free?+
You visit the included museums once for free during the validity period. For additional partners such as Gaudí buildings, there is a reduced admission as stated by the provider. The full list is on the attractions page.
How many times can I visit a museum?+
Each included attraction can be visited once during the validity period. Public transport, on the other hand, can be used an unlimited number of times.
Do I need to book museums in advance?+
For most museums the card is sufficient at the entrance. For popular venues such as the Museu Picasso, it is advisable to book a timed entry slot in advance.
Which Gaudí buildings are included?+
Casa Batlló, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens and Palau Güell offer reduced admission as stated by the provider, not free entry. Details on the attractions page.
Cancellation & Other Questions
Can the voucher be cancelled?+
Cancellation depends on the booking channel: unredeemed vouchers can generally be cancelled free of charge. You will find the exact terms and conditions on your voucher.
Which validity period is best value?+
The longer the card, the lower the daily price. A long weekend usually fits the 72-hour option; for longer stays, 96 or 120 hours. More information under Prices.
